Following my visualiser for 'The Bloodwren Pt.II', I knew from the offset that 'Falter' would be more narratively driven. The song itself goes through so many distinct movements that it was clear I couldn't do it justice by building the whole video around a single looping animation, as I did previously. Instead, I started with the three main animations of the man running, then the two falling movements, but allowed the track to tell me what the video should be and where it should go, eventually creating further animations and even filming photographic sections too. Like the album design, this video features a collage of various artistic approaches; animation, video and film coming together to form what is hopefully a cohesive and satisfying final narrative.
The video was produced over three days. Every frame was hand-painted in Photoshop CC then compiled/edited in FCPX.
