'Loose Wig' is the first track on Emm Gryner's 2023 album, 'Business & Pleasure'. This video was featured as an exclusive premiere for Great Dark Wonder in Canada, who kindly described the video as "outstanding" and said it was "essential to blend era-appropriate imagery with the retro-flair of the soundtrack. A challenge taken to heart by JJ Eringa [...] who craftily ties visual cues with the breezy beat as a narrative for this lyric video. Together, the music and video combine to pack quite the punch."
This was certainly a fun one to work on, raiding the public domain once again, though this time for clips of Summery freshness, jazz history and even a couple of Blaxploitation flicks! The song makes reference to contemporary politics (primarily Donald Trump) but does so in an upbeat and cleverly cloaked way, something I tried to play off by juxtaposing images against words that would sometimes act at face value, or other times contrast to add context to the lyrical poetry.
