Brief: Art Direction and graphic design for Jamie Webster's new album, 'Ten for the People'.
After our previous collaboration on Jamie's no. 3 album, 'Moments', he approached me again for 'Ten for the People'. Grander in scale musically, I wanted to reflect this in the artwork, producing not only a fully painted front cover image but also eleven separate artworks for the back cover (one for each song). I then photographed a series of vintage books from my bookshelf and made each of these artworks look as though they were printed on the book covers, matching the theme of stories that runs through the album.
As well as variations on the art for different editions of the album, I also created three separate single artworks for 'Fickle Fran', 'Looking Good' and 'Sing Your Tears'.
The album reached no. 2 in the UK charts, selling enough to have got top position had it been released any previous week of the year so far!
ALBUM ART

Vinyl artwork,

CD Digipak artwork. I created a separate back cover for the CD to retain legibility on the smaller surface. I also increased the size of the book on the front cover for the same reason.

SINGLE ARTWORKS

Created in Photoshop CC, using press shots of Jamie and the book photos I took for the back cover.

In all, I created front/back covers for vinyl, CD and cassette, a separate inlay for each format, separate label art for each format, a full lyrics booklet for the CD and various alternate artworks for live editions, the Pub Tour Edition, deluxe versions etc, as well as the three digital single packshots.
On top of actual album design, I made some posters, a Christmas card and even designed a custom beer mat and pint glass!
If you wish to see any of these more specific designs in greater detail, please feel free to get in touch!
Pier Head Live edition, for which I mainly had to redesign the back cover to accommodate double the number of tracks.

The deluxe CD design features more songs but with the open book concept allows easily for more text and a play on the text you find at the end of real books.

The Pub Tour Edition is designed to look like a beer mat on a pub table. The design was so popular they printed real beer mats and I designed a new back without the tracklisting.

The cassette cover required a redesign of the book to fit the taller format.
