'Bizarre Love Triangle' is The Anchoress' vintage synth reworking of the New Order classic, the track and video created as part of the Drowned In Sound Singles Club.
Even on a first listen to the song, I was hit by images of Catherine floating in and out of darkness, coupled with a sense of hypnosis. The song put me in a sort of trance and thankfully I think we were able to translate that into the video.
Our shared love of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s ‘Last & First Men’ inspired a lot the abstract city imagery, as did ‘Man With A Movie Camera’, which was a constant touchstone for me on this, especially in finding the inherent beauty in basic compositing techniques.
Although we didn’t shoot or cut this video on film, there’s nothing in the edit that couldn’t have been done traditionally, grounding the abstraction in simplicity and reality.
