Pencil Illustrations
Four little sketches, from left to right: Egon Schiele (October 2018), Lightnin' Hopkins (August 2018), Bob Dylan (August 2019) and caricature of Ian Brown (December 2017)
Byro Illustrations
Left image: some byro sketches here of some of my music heroes, clockwise from top left: Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane), Paul McCartney, Wilko Johnson and Keith Moon (The Who), all from April 2018.
(Apologies for the repeated images - the left hand collection is of high quality scans, the second is an iPhone photograph of the portraits together as I forgot to ever scan Patti Smith, here seen top left!)
Painted Works
'Blonde On Blonde' - acrylic on canvas (November 2020)
A more comfortable style for me, this is a potential jumping off point for a series of works exploring similar themes. The title is simply the album I was listening to while painting to force me to work quickly.
Apologies for shine in image; the piece was still wet when photographed.
Mixed media and acrylic self portrait (January 2019)
This was a nice shift for me, making the Hollywood mirror from a reclaimed garden frame and intricately recreating the effect of smashed glass with foam board before even thinking about loading up the brush. It was the culmination of an exploration into gender performance and attempts to change up my style a bit.
A3 self portrait in acrylic and ink on cartridge paper (December 2017)
Apologies for the slightly blurry scan in places! This was a bit of fun combining my comic book influences of old with more expressive though detailed paint work inside the mouth.
'Most People Are Not Fit To Rule Themselves' - acrylic on MDF (November 2018)
One of a trilogy of paintings to go alongside three of Jenny Holzer's 'Truisms'. A study of association and how we connect images to text.
'People Are Nuts If They Think They're Important' - acrylic on MDF (December 2018)
The second of my 'Truisms' trilogy. A study of association and how we connect images to text.
'The Mundane Is To Be Cherished' - acrylic on MDF (November 2018)
The third 'Truisms' painting. A study of association and how we connect images to text.
Bob Dylan in acrylic on cartridge paper (May 2018)
A true hero of mine, here painted in a style that takes inspiration from Merryl Jaye's 'Legends' series.
